Daniel Faraday

Daniel Faraday arrives on the freighter off the island as a jittery, soft-spoken physicist, all nervous hands and half-finished sentences. He claims to be there to help, but his questions are strange, his manner is gentle to the point of oddness, and he clearly knows far more about the island than he's saying.

Jeremy Davies plays him as pure exposed nerve — stammering, blinking, apologizing mid-thought — which makes Daniel funny and touching before you register how carefully the writers are rationing what he actually understands. That mismatch between his fragile affect and the enormity of his knowledge is what makes every scene with him feel loaded.
