Dan Egan

Dan Egan is a communications staffer for Vice President Selina Meyer, and the most nakedly ambitious person in a building full of ambitious people. Handsome, glib, and utterly without shame, he treats every relationship, romantic or professional, as a networking opportunity. Loyalty, for Dan, is a tool he uses on other people and never carries himself.

Reid Scott plays him with a game-show host's grin over pure careerist ruthlessness, and the show never lets him soften into likability just because he's charming. What works is the honesty of his selfishness — Dan never pretends to be better than he is, which somehow makes him funnier, and weirdly more trustworthy, than the hypocrites around him.
