Dan Dority is Al Swearengen's chief enforcer at the Gem Saloon, a hulking presence who handles the camp's dirty work without complaint. He's loyal to the point of devotion, quick with his fists or a blade when Al needs a problem solved, and carries himself with a rough, watchful competence that keeps Deadwood's chaos at bay.

W. Earl Brown finds surprising tenderness inside a man built for brutality — Dan's devotion to Al reads less like servility than genuine love, and his discomfort with certain violence flickers under the surface even as he commits it. The performance makes muscle and menace feel like armor over something more conflicted, which is what keeps him human.
