Cyril

Cyril is one of New Burbage Festival's long-serving character actors, a fixture backstage more than onstage, given to grumbling wit and old theatrical war stories. He watches the chaos of a struggling Shakespeare festival with weary amusement, more invested in gossip and grievance than ambition, content to needle colleagues rather than chase the spotlight.

Graham Harley plays him as a droll survivor, the kind of actor who has seen every artistic-director meltdown before and finds them funnier each time. Paired often with Frank for a double-act rhythm, Cyril supplies the show's sardonic ballast — proof that a theatre runs on its lifers, not just its stars, and that grumbling can be its own form of devotion.
