Cpt. Craig "Encino Man" Schwetje

Schwetje commands Bravo Company, the man whose orders send Recon Marines into and out of danger. He is earnest, dutiful, eager to do things by the book, and utterly unaware that his own men have nicknamed him "Encino Man" for his blunt, prehistoric affect and his knack for saying the wrong thing at the wrong moment.

The show never has to editorialize about incompetence in the chain of command; it just lets Schwetje talk, and Brian Patrick Wade's flat, guileless delivery does the rest. He's funny in the specific way real bad leadership is funny to the people under it — never cartoonish, just slightly, maddeningly off, which is exactly why the joke never gets old.
