Cpl. Walt Hasser

Walt Hasser rides in Colbert's Humvee as part of Second Platoon's push into Iraq, a young Marine still finding his footing among harder, more cynical men. He's earnest and eager to do the job well, watching the chaos around him with a kind of unhardened attention the veterans have long since lost.

Szajda plays him as the platoon's moral weather vane, someone whose reactions to what he sees haven't calloused over yet. Against the gallows humor of Person and the cool competence of Colbert, Hasser's quieter unease gives the show a register of genuine, unperformed conscience, watching war register on someone before he's decided how to carry it.
