Cotton Hill

Cotton is Hank's father, a shrunken, foul-mouthed World War II veteran who lost his shins taking a hill in the Pacific and has never let anyone forget it. He struts around Arlen barking insults, chasing women, and demanding the respect he thinks his sacrifice entitles him to. He is impossible to please and impossible to ignore.

Toby Huss finds a voice for Cotton that sounds scraped raw, half John Wayne and half wounded animal, and it turns a monstrous father into something the show can mine for both horror and huge laughs. The writing never excuses him, but it lets you see exactly how Hank got built the way he did.
