Corky Sherwood

Corky Sherwood arrives at FYI fresh off a Miss America crown, all sunny enthusiasm and eager smiles, and the veteran newsroom around her barely hides its disdain. She wants to be taken seriously as a journalist, chirps through assignments with relentless positivity, and seems, at first glance, hopelessly out of her depth among hardened reporters.

The joke could have stopped at pageant-queen ditziness, but the writing keeps letting Corky be underestimated and then quietly competent, and Faith Ford plays the gap between perception and reality with impeccable comic timing. Her sweetness never curdles into stupidity, which is what makes the newsroom's condescension funny rather than cruel.
