Cooper Norris

Cooper is Tommy Norris's son, a young man who skips college to work the rigs himself, hauling and roughnecking in the West Texas oil patch rather than taking an office job his father could hand him. He's quiet, stubborn, and eager to earn his place through sweat rather than surname.

Jacob Lofland plays Cooper with a watchful, unshowy patience that contrasts sharply with Billy Bob Thornton's bluster as his father. The character gives the show its clearest window into the actual physical danger of oilfield labor, and Lofland makes Cooper's insistence on doing it the hard way feel like real conviction, not stubbornness for its own sake.
