Connor Roy

The eldest Roy sibling, Connor lives on a New Mexico ranch nursing eccentric libertarian theories and a decades-long non-romance with a woman named Willa. He wants, more than money, to be taken seriously — as a thinker, a father, maybe even a presidential candidate. Everyone around him treats this as adorable and slightly sad.

Alan Ruck plays Connor as a man perpetually one beat behind his own family's cruelty, and the show is generous enough to let that obliviousness read as its own kind of peace. He's the joke the writers love most, given the season's most quietly moving line just when you've stopped expecting one from him.
