Colonel

The Colonel turns up in the background of Futurama's sprawling universe of one-off officials, a gruff military type barking orders with the clipped certainty of someone who has seen stranger things than the situation currently in front of him. He treats absurd emergencies as routine business, all bark and procedure.

John DiMaggio, already doing heavy lifting elsewhere in the cast, drops his voice into a different register of gravel for this kind of role, finding the comedy in total institutional confidence applied to nonsensical circumstances. It's a small part, but that flat deadpan authority is exactly what makes Futurama's chaos feel bureaucratically real.
