Coast Guard Mantis

A minor official of the seas, this mantis wears the uniform and manner of a Coast Guard officer and treats the job with the same brisk, procedural seriousness any human bureaucrat would bring to it. Met only in passing, it exists to check papers, enforce rules, and move the Planet Express crew along.

The joke is entirely in the mismatch: a fearsome insect predator rendered as a clipboard-carrying functionary, droning through regulations instead of devouring anyone. Tress MacNeille plays it perfectly straight, no camp, no menace, just bureaucratic monotone — which is exactly what makes thirty seconds of screen time memorable.
