Coach Steve

Coach Steve is Nick's dim, gleefully overgrown gym coach and de facto older friend, still living in his van, still hyped about candy and Warhammer figurines. He hangs around the kids' lives with total lack of boundaries, offering terrible advice with total sincerity and treating middle school like the best years of anyone's life.

He's a joke that keeps paying off: an adult with the emotional age of the children he coaches, played by Kroll with such unguarded enthusiasm that his idiocy becomes weirdly sweet. The show uses him as pure comic relief but never lets him curdle into contempt — he's an idiot, but a beloved one.
