Coach Beard

Ted's imperturbable assistant coach and oldest friend, Beard follows him from Kansas to a Premier League club he clearly knows more about than Ted does. He's quiet, watchful, and dryly precise, content to stand a step behind while absorbing everything — tactics, gossip, the emotional weather of the whole locker room.

Brendan Hunt (also a writer on the show) plays Beard as a man of few words who somehow always has the exact right one, and the contrast with Ted's chatter is the joke and the anchor at once. His deadpan stillness makes the rare moments he opens up land like small revelations.
