Cinema Clerk

The Cinema Clerk is exactly what the job title promises: a bored, low-level worker manning the ticket window or concession stand in some Futurama-future movie house, dispensing tickets or popcorn with the flat indifference of anyone stuck in retail, human or otherwise. He's a blip in the background of someone else's errand, not the point of the scene.

Futurama's genius is often in these throwaway employees, and Billy West — already doing half the main cast — tosses off a clerk's voice with the same deadpan commitment he gives Fry or Farnsworth. The joke isn't the character himself so much as the show's insistence that even 31st-century drudgery sounds exactly like ours.
