Chief Jim Hopper

Hopper is the small-town police chief of Hawkins, Indiana, coasting through a life of paperwork, hangovers, and casual disregard for his job until a boy vanishes. Gruff, sardonic, and visibly worn down by something in his past, he doesn't seem interested in heroics until the case refuses to add up.

Harbour plays the burnout so thoroughly that his slow reawakening into competence feels earned rather than convenient. The writing lets him be selfish and lazy before it lets him be brave, and that sequencing is what makes his doggedness land — a man rediscovering purpose he'd stopped believing he had.
