Charlie Strong

Charlie Strong is Tommy Shelby's uncle, a weathered, taciturn man who runs the yard and later the foundry with a horseman's patience. He keeps to the edges of family schemes, offering blunt honesty rather than ambition. Loyal without flattery, he treats the Shelbys as blood first and business second.

Ned Dennehy plays him with a stillness that cuts through all the strutting and violence around him — a working man's gravity in a show full of performance. Charlie never raises his voice to be heard; he simply refuses to lie, which makes him one of the few people Tommy can't quite manage.
