Charles-Haden Savage

Charles-Haden Savage is a faded television actor coasting on the residue of a decades-old cop-show role, living alone in the Arconia with a hot plate and a strict routine. When a death in the building sparks his curiosity, he joins two near-strangers to podcast their way through an amateur murder investigation, treating it as a chance to matter again.

Steve Martin plays fussy melancholy with such precision that Charles's loneliness never tips into pity — his stiffness is funny and sad in the same breath. The show gives him a career built on pretending to solve crimes, then hands him a real one, and Martin makes his eagerness to finally be useful feel touchingly transparent.
