Charles "Charlie" Kelly

Charlie is one of the gang who runs (or ruins) Paddy's Pub, a scrappy, semi-literate live wire with boundless enthusiasm for terrible schemes. He's illiterate, obsessed with the Waitress, prone to huffing paint and glue, and treated as the group's dim wildcard — though he's often stranger and shrewder than anyone gives him credit for.

The writing lets Charlie be the show's chaos engine, its most unfiltered id, and Day plays him with a shrieking, physical commitment that never winks at the audience. What sticks is the specificity — the crude drawings, the invented songs, the childlike logic — turning a character who could be a cheap joke into the show's strange, beating heart.
