Character
Carrie Mathison
Carrie Mathison in Homeland (2011), played by Claire Danes.
Carrie Mathison is a CIA officer convinced a returned American POW has been turned by the enemy, and she is willing to break rules, lie to superiors, and risk her career to prove it. She is brilliant, obsessive, and hiding a bipolar disorder from the agency she serves, running on instinct and too little sleep.
Claire Danes plays intelligence as a kind of fever, letting Carrie's certainty and her illness look almost indistinguishable from the outside. The show never lets you fully trust her judgment or fully dismiss it, and Danes's face — that shattering, unguarded crying — makes her volatility feel dangerous rather than decorative.
Caroline Anne "Carrie" Mathison is a CIA agent responsible for counterterrorism. Her main target is Abu Nazir, a Pakistani terrorist leader. The agent suspects that American Sergeant Nick Brody converted during his captivity and is organizing an attack on American soil. However, despite her competence, Carrie suffers from bipolar disorder, which compromises her credibility within the agency.
