Butch Sears

Butch Sears works out of the DEA's Guadalajara office, part of the small, undermanned team trying to make a dent in the Mexican drug trade. He's a company man in a losing fight, following procedure and chain of command even as the ground beneath him shifts. Steady, unglamorous, and out of his depth.

Aaron Staton plays him as competence without swagger, which is rare in this genre — no maverick instincts, just a guy doing a hard job by the book. That restraint makes him a useful lens on the era: the show needs someone who represents the institution's limits, and Staton gives that limitation a human, frustrated face.
