Bret Blob

Bret Blob drifts through the background of New New York as one of the city's stranger residents, a gelatinous alien whose name is pretty much a plot summary. He doesn't drive the story; he's part of the scenery of a future where every third pedestrian might be see-through, tentacled, or shaped like a puddle with opinions.

Futurama's gift is treating its weirdest extras with total seriousness, and Bret Blob is a small example of that commitment to a lived-in, absurd universe. Tress MacNeille, who voices dozens of the show's oddities, gives him just enough personality to register as a person and not a gag, which is the whole joke.
