Blanche Devereaux

Blanche is the Southern belle who owns the Miami house the Golden Girls share, and she never lets anyone forget it. Widowed, glamorous, and unapologetically man-hungry, she greets every day as a chance for romance, flattery, or both. Vain, generous, and gloriously self-mythologizing, she treats her own desirability as an established fact of nature.

Rue McClanahan plays Blanche's vanity so committed that it becomes weirdly moving — every preening boast is also a woman refusing to disappear after loss. The writing hands her the show's filthiest one-liners, but McClanahan's Southern-belle purr turns innuendo into something closer to joy: appetite as a form of survival, delivered without a flicker of shame.
