Bill Stechner is a CIA man working the fringes of the drug war, more interested in Cold War politics than cocaine. He moves through Narcos: Mexico's world of cartel and government players with a bureaucrat's calm, treating alliances with dangerous men as simple matters of policy and leverage.
Eric Lange plays him without menace or swagger, which is exactly what makes him unsettling — he's polite, procedural, utterly convinced of his own reasonableness. The show uses him to show how American intelligence interests tangle with the cartels' rise, and Lange keeps him chillingly ordinary throughout.
Bill Stechner, formerly known as Mr. Green, was an American CIA operative who supplied weapons to various rebel groups around the world, particularly in Latin America. He was appointed as the CIA Station Chief in Colombia in 1992. He is based on the C.I.A corrupt agent Felix Ismael Rodriguez.
