Bill Stechner

Bill Stechner is a CIA man working the fringes of the drug war, more interested in Cold War politics than cocaine. He moves through Narcos: Mexico's world of cartel and government players with a bureaucrat's calm, treating alliances with dangerous men as simple matters of policy and leverage.

Eric Lange plays him without menace or swagger, which is exactly what makes him unsettling — he's polite, procedural, utterly convinced of his own reasonableness. The show uses him to show how American intelligence interests tangle with the cartels' rise, and Lange keeps him chillingly ordinary throughout.
