Bill Murphy

Bill Murphy is the youngest kid in the Murphy household, a nervous, soft-hearted boy trying to survive elementary school, a strict father, and a body that seems to betray him at the worst moments. He just wants to be liked, to avoid trouble, and to make it through the day without an accident or a beating.

Haley Reinhart gives Bill a real childlike quaver, all worry and hope in equal measure, which makes his small humiliations land as genuinely painful rather than just gross-out comedy. The show could easily reduce him to a punchline machine, but the voice keeps insisting he's a scared kid, and that tension is what makes him endearing.
