Beth Latimer

Beth Latimer is a mother in a small Dorset town whose eleven-year-old son Danny is found dead on the beach. She is pregnant, married, and trying to hold her family and her own footing together while the disappearance turns into a police investigation that pulls the whole community apart. Grief hits her in waves, not a straight line.

Jodie Whittaker plays shock as something physical, a body that keeps moving after the mind has stopped, and the writing refuses to let Beth become a symbol of grief rather than a person living through it. She is angry, tender, unreasonable, and completely convincing in every register, often within the same scene.
