Beocca

Beocca is a lame, red-haired priest in the court of Wessex, devoted to God and to the family of Ealdorman Uhtred. He becomes tutor and protector to young Uhtred after tragedy strikes his household, teaching him letters and faith while fumbling through his own timidity and physical awkwardness with earnest, stubborn loyalty.

Ian Hart plays him as no mere comic cleric — the stammer and squint hide real steel, a man who chose faith over the sword and never stops paying for it. His devotion to Uhtred, equal parts paternal and hopeless, gives the show its moral center: gentle, funny, quietly unbreakable.
