Benjamin Cleveland

Benjamin Cleveland is a militia colonel and landowner in the North Carolina backcountry, a man used to being obeyed. He hands out his own brand of frontier justice—swift, harsh, and unquestioned—and expects Jamie Fraser to fall in line with it. Genial on the surface, he carries an unmistakable edge of menace.

Turlough Convery plays him with an easy, almost jovial cruelty that's more unsettling than outright villainy—he never raises his voice because he's never had to. The writing uses him to force Jamie into moral corners, making Cleveland a measure of just how far frontier order can curdle into brutality.
