Bender 1

Bender is a bending unit built for construction work, but he'd rather steal, drink, smoke, and scheme his way through life doing as little honest labor as possible. He meets Fry on his first night in the future and immediately tries to talk him into a suicide booth, then a life of crime instead. Charming, selfish, and proud of it.

The joke is that a robot is the most gloriously human character on the show — vain, cowardly, sentimental against his will — and DiMaggio's growling, self-satisfied delivery sells every contradiction without softening any of them. He's written as irredeemable and somehow becomes the one you'd trust with a secret, if not your wallet.
