Ben Wyatt

Ben Wyatt arrives in Pawnee as a state auditor sent to gut the town's budget, which does not endear him to anyone. He's meticulous, awkward, and quietly anxious about the teenage-mayor disaster that still haunts his career, hiding real warmth and nerdiness under a stiff,by-the-book exterior.

Adam Scott plays Ben as a man perpetually bracing for humiliation, which makes his gradual thaw into Pawnee's weirdness so satisfying. The writing lets his dorkiness—Batman, calzones, Ice Town—coexist with genuine competence, and Scott's dry, self-deprecating timing turns a potential stick-in-the-mud into one of the show's funniest, most likable straight men.
