Basketball Announcer

A background voice in Futurama's world of 31st-century spectacle, the Basketball Announcer calls the action from the booth with the practiced bombast of every sports broadcaster who ever lived — hyperbolic, easily thrilled, and entirely sure that whatever is happening on the court right now is the most important thing in the universe.

Maurice LaMarche built a career on exactly this kind of voice, and Futurama hands him free rein to send up sportscaster clichés with total commitment. The joke isn't the character so much as the performance: a booming, over-caffeinated delivery that treats absurd future-basketball with the same reverence real announcers give the NBA Finals.
