Barney Stinson

Barney is Ted's best friend, a suit-obsessed bachelor with an ironclad philosophy of seduction and a suspicious backstory he keeps rewriting. He holds court at the bar with elaborate schemes, made-up statistics, and a booming "Suit up!" He wants fun, freedom, and applause, and he treats commitment like a threat to be dodged with a laugh and a laser pointer.

The writing hands him absurd set-pieces — playbooks, decks of cards, entire fake laws of bro-dom — and Neil Patrick Harris commits so fully that the bit becomes character. His comic timing turns catchphrases into events, but there's a flicker underneath the bravado, a loneliness he covers with a bigger suit and a louder scheme, that keeps him human.
