Austin Dickinson

Austin is Emily's older brother, the son groomed to inherit their father's law practice and the family name. He wants out—a life of poetry, freedom, or at least a marriage to Sue Gilbert that feels like escape rather than duty. Charming and restless, he chafes visibly under Edward Dickinson's expectations.

Enscoe plays Austin's frustration as something almost boyish, a golden-boy sulk that keeps curdling into real hurt. The show uses him to needle at Emily's own trapped ambitions from another angle, and Enscoe finds the self-pity and the genuine tenderness in him without ever picking one over the other.
