Askeladd

Askeladd leads a band of Viking raiders across England, quick with a joke and quicker with a knife when the moment calls for it. He kills Thorfinn's father and takes the boy along as a hand who dreams of one day dueling him for revenge. Charming, ruthless, and impossible to read, he treats war as a puzzle to be solved rather than a cause to believe in.

Uchida gives him a voice that slides effortlessly between camaraderie and menace, never letting you settle on which one is real. The writing keeps his motives just out of reach, so every clever line or act of mercy could be strategy or something else entirely. That ambiguity, sustained scene after scene, makes him the show's most magnetic presence.
