Futurama loves a deadpan expert who treats absurd 31st-century detritus with the solemn rigor of real scholarship, and Maurice LaMarche's gift for pompous, fussy authority makes every pronouncement sound like it belongs in a peer-reviewed journal. He's a small joke, but the commitment is total, which is exactly the show's comic engine.
