Arataka Reigen

Arataka Reigen runs a one-man psychic consulting business out of a shabby office, charging clients to banish spirits he cannot actually see. His secret weapon is his awkward middle-school apprentice, Mob, whose real powers he directs while taking all the credit. Slick, self-assured, and endlessly improvising, he talks like a man who believes his own pitch.

The joke is that the fraud is also, somehow, the moral center: Reigen has no powers and every con artist's instinct, yet he keeps giving Mob the one thing actual psychics never do — decent, unglamorous advice about being a person. Sakurai plays the bluster so warmly that the hollowness underneath becomes the whole point, and the punchline.
