Annie Edison arrives at Greendale Community College fresh out of a stint at a mental hospital following an Adderall addiction, determined to reinvent herself as the group's brightest, most diligent student. She's intense, organized, and achingly earnest, chasing perfect grades and moral clarity with a fervor that unsettles her more laid-back classmates.

Brie plays Annie's perfectionism as both funny and touching, letting the character's need to be good curdle into something sharper whenever she's crossed. The writing keeps undercutting her wholesome image with flashes of manipulation and steel, and Brie sells both halves so completely that Annie never feels like just the 'good girl' of the group.
