Animatronic Whalers

An animatronic crew of robotic whale hunters turns up as background menace in one of Futurama's stranger detours, growling orders and chasing their quarry with mechanical single-mindedness. They exist mostly to be gruff, relentless, and slightly ridiculous, a joke about old seafaring archetypes rebuilt in tin and wire.

John DiMaggio's gravelly, blustering delivery turns what could be a throwaway sight gag into something genuinely funny, layering just enough grizzled-sailor bravado onto clanking machinery that the joke lands twice: once for the visual, once for the voice selling it completely straight.
