Andrew Glouberman is a seventh-grader ambushed by puberty, all sweat and shame and helpless arousal, narrated at every turn by his personal Hormone Monster. He loves his best friend Nick, agonizes over crushes, and treats every bodily betrayal as a moral catastrophe. Awkward doesn't begin to cover it — he's a walking apology to his own hormones.

Mulaney plays him with a nasally, self-flagellating panic that turns puberty into slapstick tragedy — every stray thought spirals into confession-booth guilt. The show could easily make him gross or pathetic, but the writing keeps his desperation so earnest and specific that his humiliations land as tender rather than cruel.
