Andrew moves through the leafy respectability of Surbiton as part of the world surrounding Tom and Barbara Good's experiment in self-sufficiency. He carries himself with the mild, settled confidence of someone comfortable in conventional suburban life, watching his neighbours' chaotic vegetable-patch rebellion with a mixture of bemusement and polite reserve.

Reginald Marsh brings a dry, unhurried warmth to the sort of role that could easily curdle into mere disapproval. He lets small reactions do the work — a raised eyebrow, a pause before a pleasantry — so that the character never feels like a punchline but like a real, slightly baffled witness to an experiment happening next door.
