Alma Garret

Alma Garret arrives in Deadwood as a proper Eastern wife, married to a weak, moneyed husband chasing a gold claim he barely understands. She is composed, watchful, and quietly dependent on laudanum to get through her days, a woman of manners stranded somewhere manners don't help her.

Molly Parker plays refinement as armor rather than decoration, letting small tremors of appetite and calculation show beneath Alma's correctness. The writing puts a woman trained to be decorative into a camp built on greed and violence, and then quietly lets her prove far shrewder than anyone, including herself, expected.
