al'Lan Mandragoran

Lan is the warder bound to the Aes Sedai Moiraine, a silent, deadly swordsman who has spent his life fighting a losing war he refuses to abandon. He arrives in the Two Rivers wary of outsiders, all discipline and blunt judgment, more comfortable with a blade than a conversation, and utterly loyal to the woman he serves.

Daniel Henney plays him almost entirely through restraint, letting small shifts in posture and gaze carry a grief the script hasn't spelled out yet. The writing wisely keeps him terse rather than tragic-on-the-nose, so his devotion to Moiraine and quiet exhaustion with duty read as lived-in rather than performed, making his rare warmth land hard.
