Alfie Solomons

Alfie Solomons runs the Jewish bakery underworld of Camden, a rival gangster whose bread and prayer books sit alongside guns and razors. He talks in circles, quotes scripture, and never gives a straight answer if a strange one will do. Shelby comes to him for business, and Alfie makes him wait, and watch, before deciding whether to be friend or threat.

Tom Hardy plays him as pure unpredictability, mumbling and darting between menace and comedy in the same breath, so you can never quite tell which way the scene will tip. The writing gives him rambling monologues that seem to go nowhere and then land exactly where he meant them to. It's a performance you can't stop watching precisely because you can't predict it.
