Aethelhelm

Aethelhelm is a West Saxon ealdorman with deep coffers and deeper ambitions, hovering close to the throne without ever sitting on it. He speaks softly, smiles easily, and calculates constantly, angling his family's fortunes through marriage, money, and patient political manoeuvring rather than the sword.

Adrian Schiller plays him as pure velvet menace, all courtly manners and unhurried patience, which makes him far more unsettling than any warrior on screen. The show gives him real leverage in Wessex's politics, and Schiller uses stillness and a knowing half-smile to suggest a man who always believes he'll outlast everyone shouting around him.
