Aethelflaed is the daughter of King Alfred, raised in a court that prizes learning and piety over the sword. She meets us as a young noblewoman bound by duty and marriage politics, watching the men around her fight for Wessex while she is expected only to endure. Bright, watchful, and quietly rebellious.
Millie Brady plays her intelligence as a controlled thing, always calculating what a smile or a silence can accomplish in rooms where she has no formal power. The writing gives her a real political mind rather than decorative suffering, and the performance makes her patience feel like strategy, not resignation.
Æthelflæd of Mercia (before, Æthelflæd of Wessex) is a main character in both The Saxon Stories novel series and The Last Kingdom television series, being a minor character in season 1, and a main character from season 2 to the first half of season 5. She is the daughter of Alfred and Ælswith.
