Character
Adelaide Brooke
Adelaide Brooke in Doctor Who (2005), played by Lindsay Duncan.
Adelaide Brooke commands Bowie Base One, humanity's first colony on Mars in 2059. A former astronaut and now a historic pioneer, she runs her small crew with calm, exacting authority, more concerned with duty and discovery than comfort. When a stranger called the Doctor turns up uninvited, she treats him with brisk suspicion rather than awe.
Lindsay Duncan plays her as someone the Doctor has actually met his match in: dry, unflappable, entirely unimpressed by a man who claims to know her future. The writing gives her real command presence rather than borrowed authority, and Duncan makes her steel feel earned, so that every scene between them crackles with two equally stubborn intelligences refusing to yield.
Captain Adelaide Brooke, Ph.D (12 May 1999-21 November 2059) was briefly a companion of the Tenth Doctor. During the Daleks' attempt to destroy reality, she ended up being orphaned when both of her parents never returned home. She was raised by her grandmother afterwards and, as the years passed, eventually became a mother and grandmother herself. She was commander of Bowie Base One on Mars in the late 2050s.
