Additional Voices

Additional Voices is not one person but many: the passerby at the propane store, a stranger on the phone, a kid heckling from off-screen. Whoever needs a line and a face nobody will remember gets one, dropped into Arlen for a sentence or two before vanishing back into the town's background noise.

There's a specific pleasure in watching a show's texture get filled in by whoever's in the booth that day, and Toby Huss — already doing heavy lifting as Kahn and Cotton — clearly relishes stretching into these scraps. It's proof that King of the Hill's Arlen feels lived-in precisely because of these uncredited, half-second citizens.
