ADA Valerie Haywood

Valerie Haywood works the other side of the interrogation room from the detectives of the 15th squad, an Assistant District Attorney who has to make their casework hold up in court. She's exacting about evidence and unimpressed by shortcuts, arriving already skeptical of whatever story the cops are selling her.

Garcelle Beauvais brings a cool, unhurried authority to a role that could easily be procedural furniture, making Haywood's skepticism feel earned rather than obstructive. The part gives the show a legal conscience without softening into a mouthpiece, and Beauvais plays her with the composure of someone who has heard every excuse already.
