3-Bit Scruffy

Scruffy is the janitor of Planet Express, a shambling, mustachioed presence who shows up mostly to lean on a mop and remind everyone he's just doing his job. He wants to be left alone with his crossword and his cigarette, and reacts to interstellar catastrophe with total, magnificent indifference.

The joke is economy itself: a handful of lines per episode, always the same flat unbothered drawl, and somehow it never wears out. David Herman gives him a bone-dry monotone that turns apathy into comedy, so that 'I'm just a janitor' lands as both punchline and philosophy every single time he says it.
