3-Bit Bender

Bender is a bending unit robot who falls in with Fry moments after he lands in the future, and quickly reveals himself as a cigar-smoking, booze-guzzling schemer with no interest in his assigned job. He steals, lies, and insults everyone in reach, all while somehow ending up loyal to the misfits at Planet Express anyway.

The joke is that a robot built for menial bending has developed every human vice at once — greed, vanity, gluttony, contempt — and none of the virtues. DiMaggio's gravelly, self-satisfied delivery sells the contradiction: Bender is irredeemable in theory and somehow the most dependable friend in the room in practice.
